London Speakeasys

There’s a reason East London has become known as one of the coolest places in the city, and indeed the World, and it’s reputation for music is a significant part of that.

Now is a particularly exciting time for folk and blues music in this area, as the traditional industry structure is gradually breaking down, creating new opportunities for talented new musicians performers to fund, record, distribute and perform without the middle men and restrictive record contracts of the past.

Recently some from this circuit have started to gain national recognition, such as folk singer Sam Lee being nominated for the prestigious Mercury music award, and Fred Stitz playing with Razorlight. From busking in the streets, gigs in old churches and small bars, the area acts as a stage for these nascent artists to cut their teeth and launch themselves into a career in music.
